About the Chapter
Kappa Upsilon Sigma Chapter was chartered on September 1, 2008. The chartering members of Kappa Upsilon Sigma Graduate Chapter were: Jenny Bing-Harrell, Andrea Fuller, Celestine LaVan, Tara Mack, Ann Marion and Melissa Solomon.
From its inception, the primary purpose of the Kappa Upsilon Sigma was to foster sisterhood among its local membership, while providing community service, scholarship and empowerment to communities throughout Beaufort County, South Carolina. Since 2008, some of the Kappa Upsilon Sigma's service activities have included its partnership with Habitat for Humanity, where members work to organize clothes and furniture, Operation Big Book Bag, during which the chapter donates hundreds of dollars in school supplies to underprivileged students and donating clothing and supplies to the Child Abuse Protection Agency Shelter. Kappa Upsilon Sigma's annual hallmark activity is its Big Hat Brunch, organized to raise scholarship funds, which are awarded to promising college-bound youth. The Chapter also participates in the many local parades and festivals.
All members of Kappa Upsilon Sigma Chapter possess at least a Bachelor's Degree, with many having achieved Master's Degrees in disciplines spanning from business to education. Our members also represent a variety of professions. The more we know, the more we can help our communities. Kappa Upsilon Sigma is also an active member of the Pan-Hellenic Council of Beaufort County.
